overture and prelude string ensembles
Robin Mallory conducts the Prelude String Ensemble and Susan Turcotte Gavriel conducts the Overture String Ensemble. Weekly rehearsals for both ensembles are held Mondays at Masconomet High School. Both the Prelude and the Overture Ensembles meet from 4:30 pm to 5:45 pm.
Prelude String Ensemble is NMYO’s beginning ensemble. Musicians have generally studied their instrument for at least one year, and should be able to read music at a basic level, before being accepted to the ensemble and musicians’ ages range from 6 to 11. Overture String Ensemble is the next level. Musicians at this level have studied for several years and must be able to play 2-octave scales. The grade level ranges from 4th through 7th or 8th grade.
Overture and Prelude play three concerts a year. In addition to the major concerts in December and May, they perform a spring outreach concert for senior citizens.
